Protecting Borneo’s Dulan Forest

2024

In April 2024, Dax Dasilva, founder of Age of Union, visited the Dulan Forest, marking two years of partnership between Age of Union and Kalaweit, with over $1 million in funding provided. He explored the forest aboard the Age of Union plane, met rangers protecting the reserve, and saw firsthand the orangutans and other wildlife it shelters.
Dax also witnessed the deforestation crisis driven by palm oil plantations and mining, reinforcing his commitment to expand the reserve by 600 acres to the north and 1,850 acres to the south in 2025.

This project supports Indigenous territories and offers a sustainable conservation model for Borneo. Founded 25 years ago by Chanee, Kalaweit shifted from wildlife rehabilitation to protecting ecosystems before they are destroyed.

The 5,000-acre Dulan Forest is now a critical refuge, and with continued efforts, the partnership aims to safeguard more land and biodiversity, setting a standard for long-term conservation.
